Dr. Muhammad Yunus describes how he conceived the idea of Micro-Lending and created the Grameen Bank. He was awarded the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, along with Grameen Bank "for their efforts to create economic and social development from below." Dr. Yunus's book, "Banker to the Poor", (ISBN 978-1-58648-198-8) details the process he went through.

Kiva is a non-profit web site which makes it easy for individuals like you and me to get involved with micro lending and to help the poor people of the world become self sufficient. Watch this video that describes how loaning through Kiva can change lives. In addition, the president of Kiva, Premal Shah, has a few words to say.
